There is a great  new competition over at Wcx where bloggers can win a hundred dollars and a month of free advertising. All they have to do is to post there best blog on www.workconnexions.com to enter. Work connexions focuses on business development and has become a resource community center of information to grow your business. With high page rank and quality information just posting on the website will increase your Internet presence. Success!

As part of an experiment and also to demonstrate a page only exist on the internet if it is linked. I have uploaded a html file on to a server that is not linked by any other page. This page contains the following text “Congratulations You have found the competition page of Leo Cussons’s blog” It also contains a code. The person  that finds this page will win free advertising on Work Connexions worth £122.50 GBP. I suspect that as this page is not linked that no one will find it. I will confirm if that is the case next month. Success.

Seth Godin, has posted an interesting blog post on his site: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/01/encyclopedia-sa.html

And CNET hates Google
And newspapers hate Craigslist
And music labels hate Napster
And used bookstores hate Amazon
And so do independent bookstores.

Dating services hate Plenty of Fish
And the local shoe store hates Zappos
And courier services hate fax machines
And monks hate Gutenberg

Apparently, technology doesn’t care who you hate.

I have noticed this too, and would also add recruitment companies for Linkedin and possible Facebook too. Still change is coming.

Another interesting follow up to this post can be found here:

http://www.businessopportunitiesandideas.co.uk/539/who-hates-you

“Would Linux be so popular if Microsoft didn’t hate it?

Would Eminem be so popular with kids if their parents didn’t hate it?

Would the Sex Pistols have been so popular if they weren’t hated by the establishment?

Would the Vigin Atlantic have done so well if British Airways didn’t hate them?

Would the cheap airlines have done so well if the flagship carriers didn’t hate them?”

My comment… I thought the blog was going to go the other way and he was going to say. “Do not start a business if everyone hates you” but he did not.

One of my interests for the last couple of years has been seeking out the best mobile deal. Now I realised some time ago that the best mobile deal would be one where I could receive calls on my mobile at home and pay regular telephone charges. So interested was I in this idea that that I invested about 30 hours of my time on making ROI and seeking information from Nokia and skype as to if they were planning to make an application that could run on their hardware/network. Although both parties provide substantial developers forums a direct answer to my question was never forthcoming. I suspect that is due to the enormous consequences that it will have for the telecom providers in the coming years. There are at present three phones that I know are capable of supporting this technology Nokia N80, Orion IQ, hipi-2300, While skype does support windows mobile (in beta). There still is not a phone on the market (that I am aware of) where you can use VoIP LAN and GSM network together.

Some colleagues point out that a phone with LAN connectivity will have a short battery and that is the main reason why none have been issued. Of course Apple claim to have been able to solve this problem. Unfortunately I am sure that it will also only be available for Apples choosen network. But you can be sure that when I have found the solution, the competition will only just be beginning.
