Offline to Online Development - Ideas for E-commerce and Beyond

For today I thought it was about time that I mention some of the most interesting sources of information that have developed my thoughts over the last couple of months.

Mike Southon – Great speaker and writer who believes business is fun http://www.beermat.biz/index.php

Chris Corlett –  Head of the DTI in the Isle of Man -  Runs a tight ship recommend as a speaker.

Jonathan Schwartz CEO of sun – This is an amazing interaction with public one of the best examples of communication http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan/

Sherrilynne Starkie – At the top of her game I really only need to visit just this blog to stay informed - http://strivepr.com/wordpress/

I thought there would be more, but that is about it for now. Of course BBC Radio 4 must have a mention for just about everything it does: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/

The tea is on you

The question  I would ask myself is how do I find a plumber to do this job. Before there was this site it was just pick a number out of the yellow pages. Unfortunately in my experience this is the group that seems the least affected by the internet revolution, But for how long? As we aim to improve standards the ones that grasps the change will be the ones that will reap the benefits.

It is quite amusing the way information filters around. Just a few days ago I was saying that the older generation (silver surfers) and quite a few of my friends struggle with online e-commerce. The more advanced ones can book an airplane ticket on line, very few them would be able to sell something on EBay. Is the need for technology based upon pure cost cutting savings. It would appear not, the silver surfers are now the biggest growing group using the internet. I have always believed that if one takes the time new  development is not loathsome or difficult. The silver surfers are using it in one of the most wonderful  ways possible. to make contact with other silver surfers and form relationships. It was reality back in the past that old people would suffer from loneliness or boredom. So to see from yesterdays TV program this is not the case at all. They are now speeding down the information high way living the high life.

The tea is on you

Last night I attended the British computing society’s 50 birthday party. which made me think where will we be in another 50 years.

One of the discussions that came up was Japan. I like Japan. I have never visited the country but I like it from an economic piont of view. Japan in land mass is a tiny country. Yet in output it is second only to America. That means forget Europe and the Germans, the UK, China you name it.

It is an incredible achievement.

So when we talk about being competitive in the next 50 years we may have to take a closer look
at Japan.

It is not hard to see why they  are so successful. Anyone who has visited Japan
will know that they have automated anything that can be automated.

Not in a dull fashion but with real innovation that embodies the human condition.

They have been fearless with technology and look at the results that it brings. I dare say that a good example of this is Virgin trains who seem to understand that innovation is a business necessity.
